Who We Are

LoanIQ is a web-based loan calculator operated by LoanIQ Technologies, based in Kenya. We provide tools to help individuals plan and understand their loan repayments.

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of LoanIQ at our website. By using LoanIQ, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

What Data We Collect

We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide our service. Here is exactly what we collect and why:

• Email address — collected when you create an account. Used to identify your account and send you verification and password reset emails.
• Password — stored in encrypted form by Firebase Authentication. We never see or store your plain text password.
• Loan calculation inputs — loan amount, interest rate, loan term, currency, and interest type. Saved to your account so you can access them across devices.
• Loan history — a record of your past loan calculations, stored in your account so you can review and reload them.
• Subscription status — your current plan (Free, Weekly, Monthly, or Annual), stored to control access to premium features.
• Stripe customer ID — a reference ID assigned by Stripe after payment, stored so we can manage your subscription status. We never store your card number or payment details.
• Usage analytics — anonymous data about how you use the app (which features you open, errors that occur) collected via Firebase Analytics. This data is not linked to your personal identity.
• Device and browser information — basic technical information (browser type, operating system) collected automatically by Firebase. Used for error reporting and improving the app.

How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect strictly for the following purposes:

• To create and manage your LoanIQ account
• To save and sync your loan calculations across devices
• To process your subscription payment and grant access to premium features
• To send you account-related emails — verification, password reset, and payment receipts
• To improve the app based on anonymous usage patterns
• To detect and fix technical errors
• To comply with our legal obligations under Kenyan law

We do not use your data for targeted advertising, profiling, or any purpose not listed above.

How We Share Your Data

We do not sell your data. We share your data only with the following trusted service providers, and only to the extent necessary to operate LoanIQ:

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Google Firebase servers located in the United States. Firebase implements industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and encryption at rest.

We implement the following security measures on our end:

• Firestore security rules that ensure each user can only access their own data
• Email verification required before accessing your account
• Password hashing handled entirely by Firebase Authentication — we never see your password
• Stripe webhook signature verification to prevent fraudulent payment confirmations

While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

International Data Transfers

LoanIQ is operated from Kenya, but our service providers (Google Firebase, Stripe, Netlify, GitHub) are based in the United States. By using LoanIQ, you consent to your data being transferred to and processed in the United States.

These transfers are made in compliance with applicable data protection laws. Google, Stripe, Netlify, and GitHub are all participants in frameworks that provide appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

Your Rights Under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019

As a user of LoanIQ and a data subject under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019, you have the following rights:

• Right to access — you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you at any time.
• Right to rectification — you can correct inaccurate data. Your email address can be updated by contacting us.
• Right to erasure — you can delete your account and all associated data at any time using the "Delete My Account" option in Account Settings. We will delete your data from our systems within 30 days.
• Right to data portability — you can request an export of your loan history data by contacting us at thecalculator79@gmail.com.
• Right to withdraw consent — you can stop using LoanIQ and delete your account at any time.
• Right to lodge a complaint — if you believe we have violated your data protection rights, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya at www.odpc.go.ke.

Cookies and Local Storage

LoanIQ uses browser local storage (not traditional cookies) to remember your preferences between sessions. Specifically, we store:

• Theme preference — whether you prefer dark or light mode
• Exchange rate cache — recently fetched currency exchange rates, to reduce loading time
• Loan inputs — your most recent loan calculation inputs, so they persist when you return
• Firebase authentication token — stored by Firebase to keep you logged in between sessions

You can clear local storage at any time by clearing your browser data. This will log you out of LoanIQ and reset your preferences.

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

Children's Privacy

LoanIQ is not intended for use by children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at thecalculator79@gmail.com and we will delete the data promptly.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by displaying a notice in the LoanIQ app.

The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects when the policy was last revised. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Continued use of LoanIQ after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
